Details: The key topic of the conversation was the coordination of the schedule for the delivery of weapons scheduled for the next two months. Umierov thanked Spain for the previously sent HAWK systems, "which have significantly strengthened Ukraine's air defence".

Quote from Umierov: "I invited the Spanish side to join in equipping the new brigades of our Armed Forces.

I also noted Spain's contribution to the training of the Ukrainian military, which is an important element of our cooperation."

Details: In addition to the weapons supply, the parties discussed the involvement of Spanish defence companies in joint projects in Ukraine, which could become a new stage of cooperation in the military-technical sphere.

Background:

  • On 19 December, Umierov had a telephone conversation with his Portuguese counterpart Nuno Melo. The minister suggested that Portugal consider allocating funds to finance Ukrainian production in 2025. The ministers also discussed cooperation on the supply of drones for the Ukrainian defence forces.
  • Following the conversation, Umierov announced a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (Ramstein format) in January 2025.
  • Earlier, it was reported that an additional meeting in the Ramstein format could take place in December, with the option of talks at the highest level being discussed.
  • The Ramstein format was established in 2022 to coordinate US military support for Ukraine under the auspices of the United States. It brings together more than 50 countries, the vast majority of which are NATO members.
