Details: Lubinets noted that in the occupied territories, the families encountered psychological pressure and a lack of medical care and medicines. They were also pressured to obtain Russian citizenship to travel.
The children were compelled to attend schools that followed Russian propaganda curricula and were enrolled in military organisations without the consent of their parents or the children themselves. Those who refused to attend these Russian schools faced threats of being taken away from their families, along with reprisals against their parents.
Ukrainian human rights officials, local authorities and charitable foundations assisted the evacuated families with paperwork, securing housing, finding employment, and enrolling children in educational institutions within Ukrainian government-controlled areas.
Background: Ukrainska Pravda reported that Ukraine has evacuated 217 children from the occupied part of Kherson Oblast to the government-controlled territory in the first ten months of 2024.
