Ukraine’s Air Force reports intercepted 38 Russian drones across nine oblasts during an overnight attack on 6 November.

The Russian forces launch dozens of Shahed long-range “kamikaze” drones – usually Iranian-designed Shahed 131 or 136 – every night, often also launching several missiles during the attack. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Russia attacked Ukraine with over 2,000 Shahed drones containing more than 170,000 foreign components in October.

The aerial assault included 63 Shahed-type UAVs and several unidentified drones launched from multiple locations in Russia and occupied Crimea.

Ukrainian air forces confirmed the downing of 38 Russian UAVs in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts.

The attack began on 5 November when Russian forces fired two guided missiles – Kh-59 and Kh-31P – at the Odesa Oblast from the Black Sea. The drones were launched from Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Orel in Russia, and Chauda in Crimea.

The Southern Air Command said that “ten strike drones were shot down in the south, seven of them over Mykolaiv Oblast.”

Some 20 drones were reported lost due to location issues, while two remained in Ukrainian airspace.
