Ukraine to launch mass production of jam-resistant drone

Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, announced that engineers from the Brave1 military technology cluster have developed a Backfire drone resistant to Russian electronic warfare. It will soon enter mass production for the Ukrainian Army.

According to Fedorov, the Backfire can fly up to 35 kilometers behind enemy lines to target Russian artillery, logistics hubs, depots, and command posts. It is equipped with a GPS antenna that is nearly impossible to jam, making it highly resistant to Russian electronic warfare. Its full autonomy also prevents Russians from tracking its location or its operators, Fedorov noted.

Additionally, Fedorov said the Backfire “demonstrates good results on the frontline.” Military forces have conducted at least 50 successful missions over the past two months. Developers collaborate with the military’s “Zli Ptakhy” special unit to refine the UAV.

The Backfire drone has already passed the Defense Ministry’s inspection and awaits approval for official use, the Minister said. The developer team is already preparing for mass production of the drone.

On 14 November, Fedorov announced Ukraine had developed a new mobile electronic warfare system called “Enter.” It is intended for tactical-level signals intelligence, which helps evaluate the enemy’s electronic order of battle and identify vulnerabilities in their electronic defenses.
