During a meeting with visiting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced that Lithuania will provide $200 million in additional military assistance to Ukraine. This new pledge of aid comes as Zelenskyy tours the Baltic countries seeking support against Russia’s invasion.

The Baltic states, once part of the Soviet Union but now members of the EU and NATO, have emerged as staunch allies of Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. Their support is considered crucial, as defeat for Ukraine could embolden Russia to target the Baltic countries next.

“In January, we will once again send ammunition, generators, detonation systems to Ukraine, and in February – M577 armored personnel carriers. We will train Ukrainian soldiers and strengthen cooperation in the defense industry,” stated Nauseda during a joint press conference.

In his remarks, President Nauseda noted that Lithuania is putting together a “demining coalition” to coordinate support for Ukraine on this issue with other allies.

President Zelenskyy thanked Nauseda and provided details on the defense cooperation they agreed to.

“Thank you for the new defense support that we have just agreed on – not just for the assistance, but for the joint production, in particular, of counter-drone systems, which are extremely necessary at the front,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.

Lithuania regularly provides various forms of aid to Ukraine. In particular, in December 2023, Ukraine received field gear and tens of thousands of ration packs from Lithuania, as well as several million rounds of ammunition and several thousand rounds for portable anti-tank grenade launchers.
