Quote: "So far, we don’t see anything new, except for the disinformation effect and statements. All the necessary data is being collected, and both the Ukrainian special services and the entire free world are working on this. Nuclear blackmail is a common practice of the Putin regime. There is no epoch-making news here."
Background:
- The Ministry of Defence of Russia announced on 6 May that it will "soon" conduct exercises involving the use of non-strategic nuclear weapons on the orders of Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.
- Pentagon spokesperson Brigadier General Patrick Ryder called the Russian statements "an example of the kind of irresponsible rhetoric that we've seen from Russia in the past". Ryder also stressed that the United States had not observed any changes in the strategic positioning of Russian forces, but "obviously we'll continue to monitor".
