Details: The representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that Ukraine was informed about the plans of the head of the German government to hold a conversation with the Kremlin head.
Quote: "However, even if the German Chancellor did not express positions that contradict Ukraine's, conversations with the Russian dictator as such do not add any value to the pursuit of a just peace," the statement said.
Tykhyi stressed that "for more than two decades, Putin has used lengthy conversations as a resource to advance his interests".
"Currently, conversations only give Putin hope of weakening international isolation... Concrete, strong action is required to force Putin into peace, not persuasion and attempts of appeasement, which he perceives as weakness and uses to his advantage," the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry recalled that these precise actions are known, with the main one being the withdrawal of Russian soldiers from Ukrainian territory.
Background:
- On 15 November, it was revealed that Olaf Scholz had spoken to the Kremlin leader for the first time in two years.
- Reports indicate that Scholz initiated the discussion, with weeks of preparation conducted in close coordination with G7 nations.
- Before his call with Putin, Scholz had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and plans to call him again following the conversation with Putin.
