Details: Sybiha said he had held a meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors and consul generals on 8 September.

Quote: "I have set out very clear criteria for the efficient work of a Ukrainian ambassador. These are concrete results, courage, and proactivity. The ambassadors of a country at war cannot be detached from the realia of war. In this connection, I have decided to recall the acting Ukrainian chargé d'affaires in Georgia."

More details: Sybiha noted that he had announced the termination of the long-standing mission of the chargé d'affaires in Georgia due to his "complete lack of understanding of the realia of diplomacy of a country at war".

The minister noted that he had also submitted a request for the dismissal of Deputy Foreign Minister Iryna Borovets.

Sybiha added that "the Ministry will have a new structure, and the embassies’ staff schedules will be reviewed".

"We need young people to join us. The right conditions will be put in place to achieve this – I have planned a meeting with the heads of leading universities in the sector," he said.

Background

  • Mykhailo Kharyshyn, the chargé d'affaires in Georgia, revealed in August that Ukraine had received Tbilisi’s permission to appoint a new ambassador in Georgia [Ukraine recalled its ambassador from Georgia early on in the full-scale invasion – ed.], but unclear rhetoric from the Georgian authorities had hindered it.
  • On 5 September the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) voted for the appointment of Andrii Sybiha as Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Dmytro Kuleba.
