Ukrainian forces have destroyed a Russian Su-34 fighter jet in Russia's Kursk Oblast.

Quote: "A Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber has been destroyed by assets and personnel of the anti-aircraft missile units of Ukraine's Air Force in Kursk Oblast (Russia) last night while performing a combat mission."

Background:

• Explosions were heard in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, where the Savasleyka air base is located. This air base is known to house MiG-31K fighter jets capable of carrying Kinzhal supersonic missiles.
• Radio Liberty journalists released a NASA satellite image showing a fire near the Savasleyka air base in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast after a nighttime drone attack.
