Ukrainian intel: Two relay box fires paralyzed train traffic in parts of Moscow Oblast

Ukraine’s defense intelligence agency, the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) reports increasing disruptions in Russia’s railway system as frequent signalling relay box failures have been causing significant logistical challenges and train delays in various parts of Russia.

The latest incidents occurred in late November 2023 when relay boxes in Moscow Oblast near the Lazenkі, Novoperedelkinsky district, and the Artemyevo, Domodedovo city district, caught fire, according to the HUR.

“As a result of a special operation carried out in collaboration with the resistance movement, train traffic in the specified areas was paralyzed,” the HUR wrote.

Earlier, a British intelligence report claimed that anti-war activists’ persistent railway sabotage in Russia poses a challenge for authorities and impacts military logistics, with over 76 cases reaching court and 137 young individuals prosecuted by October 2023.

The Russian long-distance military logistics heavily relies on the railway network.
