Ukrainian intelligence drones attack Russian airbase of strategic bombers in Engels overnight
Engels, about 850 km from Ukraine, is the Russian Aerospace Forces' major bomber operations base. It’s reportedly Russia's sole operating location for the Tupolev Tu-160 (NATO: Blackjack) strategic bomber.
Ukraine’s military intelligence attacked the Russian airbase of strategic bombers in Engels, Saratov Oblast, early on 20 March, Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing its source in HUR.
In the past months, Ukraine has intensified its drone attacks against the Russian oil industry and military bases, aiming to hit the core of Russia’s economy over two years into Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Engels, about 850 km from Ukraine, is the Russian Aerospace Forces’ major bomber operations base. It’s also Russia’s sole operating location for the Tupolev Tu-160 (NATO: Blackjack) strategic bomber.
The source stated, “The Ukrainian-made ‘Fierce’ kamikaze drone performed excellently. The demilitarization of Engels will continue.”
The consequences of the current attack reportedly are being clarified.
On the morning of 20 March, some Russian Telegram channels posted videos of the attack with four explosions.
