She will lead the U.S. delegations to the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the Global Refugee Forum (GRF), the largest international gathering on refugees held every four years. The 2023 GRF is co-convened by Colombia, France, Japan, Jordan, and Uganda, and co-hosted by the Government of Switzerland and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. U.S. delegation members include representatives from the Department of State, United States Agency for International Development, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Welcome Corps, and the Refugee Investment Network. During the commemoration of the UDHR, convened by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Under Secretary Zeya will represent the United States at a high-level roundtable on the Future of Human Rights and Digital Technologies, underscoring the need for human rights to play a central role in the development, use, and governance of technology. In addition to meeting with OHCHR and other UNHCR delegations, she also will engage human rights advocacy organizations on the current and future opportunities and challenges for human rights globally. At the GRF, Under Secretary Zeya and the U.S. delegation will announce 26 unique commitments toward eight multi-stakeholder pledges demonstrating U.S. leadership in meeting the needs of refugees and host communities in this time of historic displacement. She will highlight new and innovative U.S. partnerships with government, nongovernment, financial institutions, civil society, and the private sector to support refugees and address forced displacement. The Under Secretary will also chair the U.S.-hosted Strategic Partnerships, Innovation, and Solutions dialogue and deliver remarks on the U.S. role in expanding solutions for refugees and their host communities. While in Geneva, Under Secretary Zeya will hold bilateral meetings with heads of state, senior government officials, and international organization partners on a range of issues, including human rights, humanitarian assistance in Gaza, global refugee support, forced displacement, and expanding lawful pathways for migration.
