A House subcommittee is holding a hearing Tuesday looking into the future of the Federal Emergency Mangement Agency (FEMA) and emergency funding.
The hearing comes as President Trump and his administration have criticized FEMA for its response to the recent deadly wildfires in California and in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton in the southeastern U.S. last year.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and many Republican lawmakers, including those from disaster-prone areas, have backed Trump's push for an overhaul of federal emergency funding. The president has also suggested in the past that states should handle their own response to natural disasters with some aid from the federal government.
The hearing from the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
