Western countries are committed to finding a solution to end Russia’s war against Ukraine and believe there is no alternative for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Victory Plan, says European Parliament Vice-President Roberts Zīle during his speech at the Third Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform, according to UkrInform.
Last week, Zelenskyy revealed his Victory Plan to the Ukrainian parliament and EU leaders in Brussels. The plan includes five key points:
- Inviting Ukraine to NATO and strengthening its defense capabilities
- Implementing a deterrence strategy against Russian aggression
- Boosting Ukraine’s economic and strategic potential
- Utilizing Ukraine’s wartime experience for future European defense.
However, some aspects of the plan contain confidential details shared only with specific Western allies.
Zīle emphasized that Russia must not win the war and called on all NATO member states to provide military support to Ukraine at a level of at least 0.25% of their GDPs.
“Western countries are committed to finding a solution to end this terrible war. We want to create a future where we can cooperate with each other and address the challenges we face. There is no alternative except for the Victory Plan that President Zelenskyy has presented,” Zīle said.
He assured that the EU Parliament is and will remain a reliable partner for Ukraine in achieving peace.
Zīle concluded his speech in his native Latvian language, noting that those in the West who are “tired of the war” are calling for compromises with Russia and territorial concessions from Ukraine.
“In Latvia, we lived under occupation when the occupying authorities took away passports and destroyed the intellectual elite. How can we compromise with the enemy? No, it is impossible,” the politician concluded.
The Third Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform opened today in Riga, with delegations from around 50 countries and six international parliamentary assemblies attending the event.
