Zelenskyy arrives in Brussels to sign EU-Ukraine security agreement

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Brussels to attend the European Council meeting and sign three security agreements, including one with the European Union.

Zelenskyy wrote on X on 27 June that he would meet with EU leaders and member states, conduct bilateral negotiations, and sign three security agreements.

The agreement with the EU is particularly significant, as Zelensky said, “It will, for the first time, enshrine the commitment of all 27 member states to provide Ukraine with broad support despite any institutional changes within.”

The Ukrainian President plans to thank European leaders for their unity and reaffirm Ukraine’s irreversible European course.

“Each step we take brings us closer to our historic goal of peace and prosperity in our common European home,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and the European Union is expected to be signed on 27 June during the leaders’ summit.

The EU summit is being held in Brussels on 27-28 June.

The Council of the EU approved the text of the security agreement with Ukraine on 25 June. The Office of the President of Ukraine announced that Ukraine and the European Union had conducted the final round of negotiations regarding the bilateral security document.
