Zelenskyy: I haven't heard Trump talk about reducing support for Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed hope that Donald Trump will continue to support Ukraine if he wins the US presidential election, as he does not want to lose to Kremlin ruler Vladimir Putin.

Details: When asked about the possible risk of losing US support if Trump wins the election, Zelenskyy replied: "Trump talks a lot, but I haven't heard him say that he will reduce support for Ukraine".

Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine "understands all the risks", the biggest of which would be a change in US policy. Still, despite the identity of the future president, the Ukrainian president expects to maintain bipartisan support from Congress.

"I believe that a lack of support for Ukraine would represent a significant victory for Putin and a defeat for the West, democracy, and freedom," the Ukrainian president added, suggesting that Trump would not want to lose to Putin.

The Republican presidential candidate has made a number of controversial statements in recent weeks about Ukraine and supporting it in countering Russian aggression.

• Last month, after a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump said he favoured a "just" peace for Ukraine but refrained from being specific about what kind of agreement to end the Russo-Ukrainian war would be fair.
• At the same time, the Republican also propagated blatant disinformation, claiming that "almost all Ukrainian cities have been destroyed", and indirectly accused Zelenskyy of provoking Russia's full-scale invasion.
